Next the current floor may have to be taken up. For this job you may need a powered carpet puller, or an automatic floor stripper. There’s one machine that fully describes itself in its name, and that is a surface prep machine. A grinding machine may also come in handy to remove the vestiges of old flooring that remain. There are ride on grinders or hand held grinders. Hand scrapers may also be utilized, but there is even a self-propelled floor stripper that is widely used by commercial flooring installers. Then too there are electric sanders and of course hand sanders. Some will use a grinder-edger, and some will utilize a floor buffing machine with its rotating huge soft pads that take the place of elbow grease.

Then there’s carpet adhesive, different kinds of seam tape of all kinds as well as carpet aluminium drives. Any good carpet installer uses heat bond tape of course and is quite knowledgeable about carpet pad staples or hot melt seam tape.

Everyone advertises that they have solvent free this and that, but interestingly enough in various tools for flooring one finds a lot of solvent cleaners!
